Adaptive Resource Reservation for Indoor Wireless LANs

چکیده
Emerging communication-intensive applications such as multimedia teleconferencing require signiicant networking resources for eecient operation. In an indoor mobile computing environment, limited wireless resources and user mobility require eeective resource reservation algorithms. These requirements demand an eecient advance reservation algorithm in order to minimize handoo call dropping while not compromise network utilization. This paper proposes a design framework and algorithms for advance resource reservation over the wireless link in indoor cellular wireless LANs. The key insight presented in this paper is that diierent cells in an indoor mobile computing environment behave diierently based on location, and need to manage their resources according to their behavior prooles. We present two results: (a) classiication of cells and predictive advance reservation based on location and behavior prooles, (b) state-dependent resource reservation based on statistical information.

An adaptive reservation protocol with a pre-emptive priority mechanism for wireless ATM LANs
This paper presents an adaptive reservation protocol called Centralized Adaptive Reservation (CAR) for supporting voice and data communications over a wireless ATM LAN. The protocol has two novel features, which may also be applied in other wireless LANs. First, with the aim of enhancing access efficiency, the access probability of the voice terminals is varied dynamically based on the predicte...

Next generation wireless networks aim to provide guaranteed Quality of Service (QoS) for multimedia applications. However, bandwidth is an extremely scarce resource in such networks that required an efficient and effective management mechanism to enhance the network performance and provide better services for mobile users. So, it would be desirable to investigate the integration of RSVP and a f...
متن کاملEnd-to-end QoS framework for heterogeneous wired-cum-wireless networks
With information access becoming more and more ubiquitous, there is a need for providing QoS support for communication that spans wired and wireless networks. For the wired side, RSVP/SBM has been widely accepted as a flow reservation scheme in IEEE 802 style LANs. Thus, it would be desirable to investigate the integration of RSVP and a flow reservation scheme in wireless LANs, as an end-to-end...
متن کاملOptimal Channel Access through Implicit Resource Reservation in Csma Networks
Carrier Sense Multiple Access (CSMA) networks are basically wireless LANs. The CSMA is a method that uses carrier sensing scheme in which the station which transmits data can detect collision and takes appropriate steps to have collision-free communication. Many stations in these networks share common resources for successful transmission of data. Resource reservation is one of the well known t...
متن کاملImproved SRB for Resource Reservation and Channel Access in Wireless LANs
In some wireless ad-hoc networks, it is not possible to rely on carrier-sense mechanisms to prevent collisions. The basic idea is to use a random back off after failed transmissions and a deterministic backoff after successful transmissions. This can be done by back off method like SRB[10] which is for the wireless station to set its back off counter to a deterministic value upon a successful p...
